A Montague Arms Debut!

In April, 2009, I was lucky enough to experience my debut performance at the lovely Montague Arms, nestled deep within the loving bosom on New Cross! And here are some pictures of the event..!

Our Mission Statement

The Shimmy Shakers and Heartbreakers aim to showcase an original and creative array of burlesque performances incorporating comedy, political satire and fun. We are by no means strippers, and anyone thinking of coming to our shows must bear in mind that we are a cabaret act (if you want sleeze then go to a strip club!).

We aim to utilise our creative abilities from the first point of action: making and/or customising costumes, recycling materials and bearing in mind an ethic of creativity and homemade charm. We also plan to plunge ourselves into the artistic community and listen, collaborate and allow ourselves to be inspired by our surroundings and the people in it.

Finally, The Shimmy Shakers and Heartbreakers pledge to only do something if we see it as right for us. We will not allow our integrity to be put into question and we will remember always why we are doing this in the first place - because it's FUN. We are not, and will never be, about target markets and demographics, we are doing this because we like it, and that is how it will stay.
